ICAI Exams November 2020: Many CA Students are likely to Opt-out fearing COVID-19 surge post Diwali

The November 2020 CA Examinations are about to start from 21st Nov. 2020 onwards. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is yet to open the opt-out window for the November 2020 CA Exams. Many aspiring chartered accountants are likely to opt-out of the ICAI CA November 2020 examinations over Covid-19 fears.

CA students are also worried as many of the examinations centers are in deplorable condition, raising doubts on the sanitization of the place during the pandemic.

Also, some of the students have been seeking postponement of the examinations, as CA Exams will go on for 18 days, unlike other public examinations, which are one-day exams.

The students are also concerned about the schedule of the examinations. The examinations are scheduled right after Diwali, when there are fears of a spike in Covid-19 cases. Around 4.7 lakh students have registered for the November examinations.

A few students have moved the Supreme Court claiming that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has not taken adequate steps to hold the examinations in the pandemic. Students from other regions in the country too alleged that the examination centers were not checked before allotment.

However, The Institute issued a notification stating that all the centers were at recognized institutions. The court has been satisfied with the argument of the ICAI and disposed off the case.

ICAI president CA Atul Gupta said they had issued standard operating procedures (SOP) for the examinations. He said the number of centers too had been increased this time from 500 to 1,100.

“Earlier we used to have 24 students in each class. We have brought it down to half. On an average, every centre has around 140 students only. We have had centre-related issues in the past too, but we have managed to fix it before the exams. There will be some last minute challenges, but we are equipped to handle it. If students have any complaints, they are free to write to us. They can also opt out from this session and take it later,” President Atul Gupta said.
