The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) exams are going to start from 21st November 2020 onwards. But, there is still very uncertainty among the student regarding this attempt.
The ICAI has also issued the Admit Cards on 1st Nov. 2020 which even further clarified that exams are going to flag off from the scheduled date i.e. 21st Nov 2020. The PIL filed has been disposed off and the ICAI has clearly won the case. Now, it is totally up to the ICAI that how it is going to conduct the exams, and perhaps that is why students are even more worried now.
CA Students’ main point of concern is the obvious one i.e. Safe conduct of the exams. Students are mainly worried about their own health and above that the health of their family members.
The Institute has not done much on these aspects instead it just keeps on promising the students that they will take care of the safety and precautions etc. Apart from this, the Institute has no concrete plan to tackle this situation. And, as we all know that the ground reality is always different from what is seen in the guidelines. Students’ worry is definitely REAL!
The Institute has been absolutely failed in taking the students in confidence. Students are consistently blaming the Institute for various reasons and the institute has been ignoring the students consistently. But this kind of attitude won’t ease the situation. Instead, the Institute must come out and must take some REAL STEPS towards the benefit of its “Beloved” Students.
In this article, I would like to draw some of the major issues and their possible resolutions that can mitigate the situation. So, here are the possible solutions which the institute must take into consideration:
1. Provide Opt-Out Option to the Students:
The Institute must open the opt-out window for November 2020 CA Exams as soon as possible. Many students are so stressed that they don’t want to appear for the exams and therefore want to opt-out. The students would be able to concentrate on their next attempt rather than keep on wasting time discussing the possibility of Nov. 2020 Exams.
2. Take Exams for Opted-out students before May 2021:
Instead of directly shifting to May 2021 attempt, opted-out students must have an option to appear in the exams before May 2021. Institute can take another exam exclusively for students opted-out from Nov. 2020. This exam can be taken somewhere around January or February 2021.
This can be provided on an optional basis. The opted-out students will have an option to choose whether to opt Jan or Feb 2021 Attempt OR directly choose the May 2021 Attempt. The Option once chosen must not be reversible so that the Institute would also be able to manage the students accordingly. If the majority of the students shift to May 2021 attempt, then for Jan/Feb 2021 exam very fewer centers will be needed. And if the majority of the student opt to appear in Jan/Feb then fewer centers will be required for May 2021 exams.
Now, this step can be very useful as:
- This will save students’ time as they don’t have to wait for the next six months to appear. Instead, they will able to appear after the next 2-3 months only.
- Institute will be able to manage the students at the exam centers as many students will shift to the next attempt and therefore exams will be more manageable.
- Less pressure will be on the May 2021 attempt.
3. Special Fund for Students appearing in the exams:
The ICAI can provide benevolent fund for the Members, why not for students? I am not asking that it should be available forever but for this one particular attempt, this fund can be created. If unfortunately, any student got infected during the exams, he can be assured that the institute is there for him/her. Institute can very easily manage this.
4. Last Attempt Increase for All Old Students:
The ICAI must increase the last attempt for old students of all levels. This will definitely provide huge relaxation to the students and it will not be a very tough task for the Institute as well.
5. Open the complaint window/google forms for complaint:
To resolve the actual issues, the Institute must need to listen to them from the students. The ICAI needs to open the complaint window and ask for the genuine issues that the students are facing. This way the ICAI will be able to interact with its students in a more positive and more pragmatic manner.
These might be the possible solutions to the ongoing fear, confusion, and disturbance among the CA Aspirants. Every single student has trust in the institute but at the same time, it is also the institute’s responsibility to listen to the students and work towards the welfare of them rather than making hollow promises.
